The International has started! From the August 2nd to August 12th the biggest event of Dota 2 will take place in Seattle. For the next 2 weeks, 18 teams will battle for the trophy and the record breaking prize pool, that holds more that 23 Million Dollars to date.
The 18 participating teams are divided into two groups: 6 teams, proved their technique and skill during past tournaments, received a direct invite to the tournament and 12 teams, that fought their way up through the qualifiers. Invted are OG, Evil Geniuses, Invictus Gaming, Team Liquid, Newbee, and Virtus.Pro. Many viewers expect these teams to be at the top of the ladder with Team Liquid, Virtus.Pro and OG being the favourites for the title.
The teams that came up through the qualifier are HellRaisers, Team Secret, Infamous, Digital Chaos, Team Empire, LGD.Forever Young, LGD Gaming, iG Vitality, Execration, TNC Pro Team, Fnatic and last but not least Cloud9. The favourites from this pool are the chinese teams LGD Gaming, LGD.Forever Young and Cloud9, many seeing LGD in particular going head to head with the invited teams.
The 23 Million Dollars prizepool will keep growing until the finale on August 12th. Fans are able to contribute to the prize pool by purchasing an in-game item called “The International Battle Pass”. Offering a new gameplay mode and the reward of cosmetic enhancements of the characters, the Battle Pass is very popular among fans. Breaking last year’s prize pool record of 20 million shows that there is no stop to DOTA 2 anytime soon.
